LILI – by Ana Andonova

The world premiere of Ana Andonova’s documentary “Lili” took place in the CK13 Youth Center, in Novi Sad, Serbia.

LILI is an eponymous documentary film about a non-binary queer activist from Azerbaijan. Filmmaker Ana Andonova (22) follows Lili on their epic journey to North Macedonia through Ukraine and Turkey. Along the way, the film cleverly taps into topics including femicide, women’s rights and trans rights from the intimate perspective of the protagonist’s experience.

Lili: ”In 2018 I participated in an artivism project in Baku. Artivism is a way of conducting activism through the arts. This is what I want to do and who I am. At the moment I am painting a mural here in Macedonia about women and transgender rights”.

The documentary received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the public, after which a Q&A session took place with the filmmaker, Ana Andonova, in which she spoke about her own experience creating a film like “Lili”, in which you become so connected with your subject, and what the next steps are for the film.
